The earliest known family root

Gottardo Fara, Salvatore Fara’s father and Cristian’s maternal great-grandfather, lived to the age of 93. He represents the earliest known root of the Sardinian family tradition connected with bees, the land and beekeeping.

The grandfather beekeeper

Salvatore Fara, Gottardo’s son, Caterina Fara’s father and Cristian’s maternal grandfather, continued the family’s connection with beekeeping. He lived to the remarkable age of 103.

Caterina Fara and Gervasio Salaris

A tradition interrupted by varroa

Caterina Fara, born in 1959, and Gervasio Salaris, born in 1958, continued working with bees. Around thirty years ago, varroa destroyed their colonies and forced them to leave beekeeping.

Memory becomes a project

Cristian Salaris, a descendant of a beekeeping family, now carries that story forward through ApeTerra, transforming five generations of family memory into a project for bees, beekeepers, villages and new generations.

A new generation imagines the future

Michelangelo S. M., Cristian’s son, Gottardo Fara’s great-great-grandson and Salvatore Fara’s great-grandson, created the original concepts for the artistic Bear and Owl hives at just 11 years old.
